Professional Summary

I study what’s missing. My research treats the absence of expected signals as information — an information-theoretic approach (Learning via Surprisability) for representing people and populations, detecting anomalies, and making the unseen visible. I also study how generative AI reshapes human creativity and teamwork, and how the timing of real-world interactions drives contagion and collective behavior. Director of the Social, AI & Networks (SCAN) Lab; Chair of the ACM IUI Steering Committee.
